I live in Santee (a
suburb of San Diego), California with my husband, Roger, of 27 years, my
19-year old daughter, Jennifer, one cat and my two miniature dachshunds. I
am a native San Diegan and my family (mother and sisters and brother) all
live in San Diego.
I took my first tole painting class in 1990 when my husband decided he was
going to take a job in Idyllwild, California. He told me I probably should
get a hobby as I had always worked full-time and I was going to be closed in
for winters with a toddler. Needless to say, even though we didn't wind up
moving to Idyllwild, painting has consumed my life. Since that time I have
taken every opportunity to take classes from so many our our great artists
in the industry.
I began teaching in 1996 for our local chapter and for a couple of tole
shops in the area. I now teach in my home studio. I have been active in my
local SDP chapter, San Diego Brush Whackers, holding many positions and
teaching for the chapter. They are a great group of people and many have
been around a long time and have remained very committed to our art form. I
highly recommend joining the Society of Decorative Painters and then seeking
out a chapter in your area, even if you are only able to attend a couple of
events a year. It is a great way to be with other people who share the same
passion as you do.
My first designing began with changing things here and there. The next step
was designing my own pieces. I have had booths at Creative Painting and at
the Society of Decorative Painters conventions.
My next adventure is
serving as a Heritage Ambassador for David Jansen’s team of talented and
enthusiastic people. We all look forward to this exciting journey with you
into being the best artist we can be.
