Arlene attended private painting classes since the age of 9, where she studied fine art techniques with a local artist for 8 years.  Shortly after, her Mother introduced her to Decorative Painting at local craft show, this was her first experience with acrylics. She was soon teaching friends and family taking this exciting adventure into a full time teaching business now called Arlene Newman Designs.

Arlene passed her first Certification in 1992, and passed the Stroke and Still Life Categories of the Master Level by 2005. She has authored 4 Door Crown Instructional Books and is currently working on her first DVD  that will be published soon.  Arlene has designed hundreds of pattern design packets and teaches two to three classes per week at her Art Studio. Arlene is a certified Jansen Art Traditions Artist and Teacher. She is currently instructing her students in the Traditions Modules Program A-B-C & D, in addition to teaching many of her own original design classes.

Arlene currently teaches at the Annual Society of Decorative Painters National Convention, and has taught at several other National Conventions including: Heart Of Ohio Tole and Creative Painting Convention in Las Vegas. She also teaches for many chapters of the Society Of Decorative Painters across the United States and belongs to her local chapter; Tole Time at the Jersey Shore, Toms River, NJ. She is a member of Vesterheim Norwegian/ American Museum and also the local chapter the Garden State Norsk Rosemaling Society.

On a more personal level, Arlene is married to Stephen and they have 4 children, Christine, Tyler, Clinton, Erika, son-in-law Paul, daughter-in-law Anne, a granddaughter Melanie, and grandson Tiger. In addition to the family, her other babies are her Labradors Brewster and Magoo, and her kitties Murphy and Sadie. The family has lived at the shore area in Wall, NJ for over 30 years.
